In 1939, long before buzz words like “livable communities” and “wrap-around” services were being used, the BYNC’s mission and activities were aimed at improving the lives of ALL residents and stakeholders in the Back of the Yards.  We are committed to making the Back of the Yards a better place to live, a better place to shop or own a business, a better place to grow up, and better place to grow old.

We sincerely thank you for your donation and express our deepest gratitude to all of our funders and financial supporters who step up every year to ensure our services and programs remain available to the community.  We look forward to working with all of you on both our current activities and on new initiatives in the coming years. With your enduring support, we look forward to continued growth and to making the Back of the Yards an even better place for decades to come.

The Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council is a 501 c 3 non-profit organziation.  All donations are tax deductible.  To request proof of our 501 c 3 status or our W-9 form,

Local Industrial Retention Initiative

Background

The Local Industrial Retention Initiative (LIRI) is a Program funded by the City of Chicago Department of Community Development. The LIRI Program works through existing community organizations, such as the BYNC, to be the liaison between the City and industries in a specific geographic area.

Purpose

The BYNC and the City of Chicago are committed to creating and maintaining an economically healthy industrial corridor. As part of this goal, the purpose of the LIRI Program is to stabilize and expand the local manufacturing base. The objectives include the prevention of local firms from closing or moving; to help companies expand; and to create and retain jobs. In essence, LIRI intends to make our area a more attractive environment for the industrial business community and seeks to retain and attract industry to the area.

Services

Assistance is offered to companies covering a wide variety of issues ranging from day to day operations to expansion projects. The BYNC acts as one-stop resource for area businesses and a liaison with City Hall.

The BYNC’s knowledgable staff are available to provide technical assistance on the many financial incentives that are available to industrial businesses operating in the City of Chicago. The City of Chicago and the State of Illinois have various programs and incentives available to businesses that are designed to attract and retain industry in the area. These incentives include grants, assessment reductions, tax credits, and rebates that often save companies thousands of dollars.

The range of services provided by LIRI groups also includes identifying and assessing the needs of local businesses through frequent communications with these businesses and the coordination of meetings for all of the local stakeholders.

After these needs are identified, the LIRI representative will contact the appropriate City Department to initiate a suitable response. These needs often involve assistance with infrastructure improvements, locating sites for expansion, resolving workforce issues, providing economic data or industry information, and the resolution of public works issues.

Contact Miguel Moreno at 773-523-4416 for more information.
