It is our sincere pleasure to present you the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council’s 2009 Annual Report.
As the report shows, by working with elected officials, residents, and business and community leaders, we create programs and deliver services that fill the needs of children, adults, senior citizens, businesses, and community partners alike. We work to create a better place to live, a better place to grow up, a better place to shop or invest, and a better place to grow old.
We encourage all of you to remain engaged in our community. You can do this by volunteering at our events, attending meetings and joining the ongoing dialogue about the Back of the Yards, by providing advice and referrals, by donating products or services, or by sponsoring our events or participating in our fundraisers.

THE GATE Community News
The BYNC urges all community residents and stakeholders to become aware of the events and news that are shaping the Back of the Yards community. Becoming interested in current events is a step towards empowerment and is vital to understanding our neighbors and our community. For this reason, we have added a news page to our website. In addition to the community newspaper we started, we have added links to other news outlets. We urge anyone who sees a relevant news story or has relevant news of their own to send it to the BYNC, so that we can share it with our audience.

In 1939, long before buzz words like “livable communities” and “wrap-around” services were being used, the BYNC’s mission and activities were aimed at improving the lives of ALL residents and stakeholders in the Back of the Yards. We are committed to making the Back of the Yards a better place to live, a better place to shop or own a business, a better place to grow up, and better place to grow old.
We sincerely thank you for your donation and express our deepest gratitude to all of our funders and financial supporters who step up every year to ensure our services and programs remain available to the community. We look forward to working with all of you on both our current activities and on new initiatives in the coming years.
