Computer Lab

The BYNC has a Community Technology Center (CTC) that allows its users to acquire the basic skills necessary to operate a PC by providing access to computers and the BYNC’s knowledgeable staff. Business owners, neighborhood children, and job seekers all benefit from the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council’s CTC.

It is safe to say that access to a computer is always advantageous to a student, and it is often a necessity when it comes to homework assignments. Our lab permits students to use word processors and other programs to complete their assignments, and it allows them to research topics on the internet.

The structured computer classes allow participants to learn the basic skills of computer use, including: using the cursor, the mouse, creating and saving a file, opening files, closing files, setting margins, editing files, using different types of fonts and sizes, mastering the use of the printer, and being able to write basic letters and documents on Microsoft Word.

We also offer advanced level classes that instruct participants in advanced applications and uses of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
