SSA #10 47th and Ashland Retail District
Program overview:
The Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council is the sole service provider for Special Service Area (SSA) #10, the 47th and Ashland Retail District. The Special Service Area program is a mechanism for commercial areas to fund expanded services through a localized tax levy. Click HERE for a map of SSA #10.
The Back of the Yards Special Service Area #10 boundaries have remained the same since its creation in 1989. These are:
- Ada Avenue on the east
- 42nd Street on the north
- 49th Street on the south and
- Hoyne Avenue on the west
The Special Service Area funds small scale capital improvement projects and a variety of programs which include:
Public Way Maintenance
- Street Cleaning is done Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. covering all SSA retail stores.
- Snow removal is done as needed during the winter.
Beautification
- Holiday and Seasonal Decorative Banners
- Graffiti Removal
- Sidewalk Pressure Washing
- Streetscapes
Facade Improvements
- Awning Rebate
- Artistic Board Up

Advertising - The SSA will assist in advertising new or existing businesses in many ways!
Senior Shuttle Bus Service – The BYNC shuttle bus transports seniors to shops and medical appoinments within the SSA #10 boundaries.
Advocating for Your Business – The BYNC, as the sole service provider for SSA #10, works with local business owners, elected officials, and city departments at all levels to provide a services for the entire business district.
