SSA #39 Brighton Park/Archer Heights
Special Service Area (SSA) is an economic development tool that utilizes the levy of real estate property tax in raising funds to provide special services for the Brighton Park/Archer Heights area. Click here for a MAP of SSA #39.
The City creates local SSA Commissions to advise the City on appropriate SSA programs and costs. SSA Commissioners are typically comprised of property/business owners within the SSA boundaries. The Commissions role, as defined by ordinance, is to recommend to the City a scope of services, and budget a tax levy. The Back of the Yard Neighborhood Council is the sole service provider for SSA #39.
The services funded through the SSA tax are in addition to services already provided by the City. These services must predominantly benefit those properties that are located within the boundaries of the SSA. Examples of special services include:
- Landscaping
- Business Advertising and Promotion
- Acid Etching Graffiti Removal
- Sidewalk Power washing and beautification
- Business recruitment/retention
- Senior Shuttle Bus Service
- Event Promotion and Coordination
- Decorative Banners and Holiday Decorations
- Thoroughfare Maintenance
From the provided throught the BYNC’s administration of SSA #39, we will be providing the businesses within the boundaries opportunities to promote their goods and services, and will be strengthening the local economy.
