Fiestas Patrias 2009
The BYNC hosted a Fiesta Patrias Coronation event on September 11th to celebrate our Mexican Independence. Reincarnating a tradition that began many years ago, the BYNC elected a Queen and two princesses to represent our famous Back of the Yards neighborhood. There were a total of 10 participants representing different states of Mexico. The event was hosted at the Mayfield Banquet Hall and had approximately 200 people in attendance, showing their supporting for the contestants and the BYNC. The guests included our local alderman, state representatives, local businesses owners, and residents.
The evening began with excitement, starting with a cocktail hour hosted by the BYNC and our five judges: Raudel Sanchez – Sanchez Brothers, Maricela Villaseñor – Crystal’s Unisex, Paul Lopez – Park Federal Savings Bank, Dan Arce – Tropical Optical, and Karina Sanchez – State Treasurer’s Office. Next, there were performances by the BYNC Ballet Folklorico, Mariachis, and a local singer – Fernando Rojas. After great presentations and a performance by the 10 candidates, the judges decide that Valeria Guerrero was the lucky girl to represent the Back of the Yards as a Queen. Karina Flores and Andrea Gallegos were also selected as princesses. All three winners received a variety of prizes. The prizes for the Queen included a $1500.00 scholarship, a laptop, Crocodile skin boots, a $200 Gift certificate from Victor Mauricio hair salon, two dresses, and a $275 Gift certificate for Salon & Spa. Each princess received an iPod, $100 Gift certificate from Victor Mauricio, $275 Gift certificate from Salon & Spa, and an evening gown. The MC for the evening was Shaggy from LA LEY – 107.9 FM, and the event concluded with a live performance by “Los Cometas”. Everyone danced into the night and enjoyed the celebration!
