ABOUT Chicago SSA#10
The City of Chicago’s Special Service Area (SSA) program is a mechanism for commercial & industrial areas to fund expanded services through a localized property tax levy.
SSA #10’s boundaries have remained the same since its inception, encompassing 47th Street from 2200 West to Loomis on the east, and on Ashland Avenue from (4000 S) on the north to 49th Street on the South.
The enhanced programs and services provided through SSA #10 are beyond what the City currently provides its constituents. The SSA-authorized services include but are not limited to: business retention/attraction, public way maintenance, promotional and advertising activities, special events, security, façade improvements, a shopper shuttle bus and economic development initiatives.
Some of the highlights of SSA #10 include its annual Fiesta Back of the Yards event in June, which has an attendance of 300,000 people over the three-day weekend, sidewalk power washing, and an Awning Rebate Program.
SSA 10: Programs & Services

Sidewalk Cleaning
SSA #10 provides daily street cleaning services to every business within the SSA boundaries. The SSA’s in-house maintenance crew clean Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., except for holidays and days with severe weather conditions. The maintenance crew also makes sure the decorative garbage cans are emptied and not overflowing on a daily basis.
Power Washing
The power washing company cleans the entire sidewalks on 47th Street and Ashland Avenue. The power washing crew thoroughly clean with biodegradable soap and hot water to make sure it removes gum and heavy stains that accumulate throughout the year. This service is done once a year in the summer.
Streetscape Elements
New in 2020, will be the new concrete round planters with the SSA 10 logo which will be installed on every corner that has the new city’s bump-out. These planters will be maintained and updated with new seasonal plants and flowers annually.
In addition to the planters, customized garbage cans will be reordered and installed in 2020.
Seasonal Street Pole Banners
SSA #10 has installed seasonal banners since 2014. These new banners will be installed every year during the spring, summer, fall and winter seasons. Seasonal banners are essential to the community because it promotes vitality and interest in the retail strip, thus creating a welcoming presence to shoppers.
Awning/Signage Rebate
The Awning/Signage Rebate Program offers all local businesses within the SSA area a 50% rebate to install a new awning or signage on their storefront. This gives our merchants an opportunity to promote their new or existing business. Typically, this program is only offered until annual funds for the program are no longer available.
Security Camera Rebate
In response to the increased violence and burglaries within our local retail shops in 2017, the SSA #10 Commissioners, in cooperation with the Chicago Police Department, the 15th Ward Office and the City’s OEMC department, created a Security Camera Rebate Program. This program allows the businesses or property owners to participate in a rebate of up to two cameras per storefront. The benefits of having the security cameras through the SSA #10 program are endless but the most powerful reason is that it will help be a deterrent to crime. SSA #10 program has committed to promote the security program within the community and its constituents through campaign ads and a case study to bring awareness of the program and overall help reduce crime.
Shuttle Bus Service
SSA #10 supports local shopping in the area by providing transportation to our neighborhood senior citizens. Our shuttle bus program provides door-to-door, convenient, safe, and free transportation, allowing our riders to remain independent and self-sufficient. Transportation is provided Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., except for holidays. Click here to download the flyer of locations and days of shopping stores the shuttle bus travels.
