The Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council organized the first 5K in the famous Stockyards Industrial Park on a commemorative day, September 11 beginning with registration at 8 a.m. and shotgun at 9 a.m. The race course started at stockyard entrance located at Exchange and Halsted, went through the flourishing industrial park. When the participants finished the race back at the stockyard entrance, they enjoyed entertainment, DJ music as well as tons of goodies from sponsors and supporters at the finish line.

The reason behind the 5K is to be a starting step of dealing with childhood obesity bringing awareness to the community of the lack of childhood activeness. The goal is to keep kids active in a community by supporting project and programs that influence kids to stay healthy.
